Know what I love to do, almost as much as I love to have random bucket list adventures all over the globe? Encourage other people to have their own. When I’m getting to know someone, I like to skip right past the usual, “What’s your favorite color?” and “Tell me about your family!” stuff. For me it’s all about the, “What’s on your bucket list??” And as soon as I find out, I’m all about encouraging you to fulfill your dreams.

So that brings me to why I even have a travel blog in the first place. I’ve been traveling and checking things off my own list for years without one, and maintaining a blog is actually a lot of work and expense. But I LOVE to encourage people to follow their dreams. Love it. It breaks my heart when someone tells me they have a dream they’ve given up on. If you’ve always wanted to go to Ireland/ learn Swahili/ sail to Fiji but you’ve given up on it ever happening because of time or money or kids or whatever, please don’t tell me- I’ll cry.

I think everyone has a bucket list, even if you haven’t set it down on paper or told anyone about it yet.

I hope reading about my adventures (and misadventures) encourages other people to remember their dreams and goals that they may have set aside and make some of them come true. If you need to save money, save money. If you need to arrange for childcare, do it. There are things you’ve been putting off that won’t wait forever, and eventually you will run out of time. I’ve been a funeral director for a long time- not to be morbid, but I promise you there will come a day when someone you love will be sitting in an office just like mine, telling someone like me about how much you loved wine, and wished you had taken that girls’ trip through Napa. Or how much you loved Greek food, and wished you had made it to Santorini. Or maybe you’ll make some of those dreams come true, and we can talk about that instead.

So…! That brings us to the fun part.

Let’s win some free stuff.

  1. Look forward to seeing and hearing more about your adventures —and misadventures.
Know you will make the most of this. Wish you all the best.

    You go girl!

    1. Thanks, Lisa! You know life is too short not to have adventures while you can! Look forward to you and R joining me on a tropical island somewhere for libations- once you both stop working so much!

  2. I’m loving your blog. I love to travel and have always been a fan of yours. I sometimes feel guilty for traveling but then I snap to reality and book a trip! Life is too short to stay at home!!!! ???. Looking forward to reading and following every step!

    1. Thanks, Tracy! I hope you know you and your hubby are two of my biggest travel idols! Never feel guilty for traveling- I firmly believe that the answer to all of the world’s problems lies in traveling to new countries, meeting new people, and realizing how much we have in common, and how much we can learn from each other.

    1. Hi Cynthia! That’s a really great bucket list item! Do you have any pictures of your grandfather as a child that you could recreate when you get to go visit? That’s so cool- I hope you get to go soon!

    1. I hope you get to go soon! Hawaii was the first big trip I ever took as a child- I was only 5 but I have so many magical memories. I can’t wait to go back!

  3. I want to take one of the long cross country journeys via Amtrak, stopping for a day or two at a time in interesting cities along the way.

    1. Another awesome choice. I just love traveling by train! I took the Via Rail Canadian from Winnipeg to Vancouver and it was just magical. Don’t bother packing too many books when you go- you’ll be lulled into such a relaxed state by the rocking of the train that you’ll be happy to just look out the window and watch the world go by.

    1. Awesome choice! I grew up in New Hampshire and we frequently went to Maine in the summers to rent a cabin in Old Orchard Beach. I’d love to go back and really explore more of the state as an adult.

    1. Awesome choice! I saw Dierks Bentley at Red Rocks in September and it was hands down the best concert venue I’ve ever been to. When you go, make sure you don’t get sidetracked by the few food vendors on the lower level- all the good stuff is all the way up at the top!

  4. My grandmother instilled in me a love for ancient history. She didn’t get to go to Rome or to Egypt to see the pyramids (that was her dream), I hope I would get the opportunity to go there someday. 🙂

    1. Both of those are on my list, too! I was supposed to be heading to Peru this month but my plans got derailed and I am so bummed about it. I hope to get it rescheduled soon!

  5. I don’t have a bucket list, and I certainly do NOT want to do so many of the things that others seem to have on theirs! This might be because I have already been able to do quite a lot in my life, although I have not been as adventurous as many. My pleasures have been a little more sedentary!

  6. A few things on my bucket list..
Ride a train (never have ridden one anywhere)
    Go to Universal Studios Florida
    Climb a (small) mountain

  7. Making a nice Christmas for my 5 kids is on my bucket list. Being a single dad raising 5 kids, I get a little worried about it.

    1. Bali is amazing. A word of advice- when they tell you to beware of the monkeys, listen! One jumped on my head at Uluwatu and ate my hairclip and I was so mad. In Ubud I saw a French girl have a coconut ripped out of her hands by a hungry monkey because she ignored the signs warning against having food in the area. Also, unless you’re a vegetarian, get the babi guling!

  8. My bucket list has many many things on it, but I would love to go to Bora Bora, and to roadtrip across the united states!

    1. You won’t regret it! I’ll never forget the first time the Eiffel Tower came into view as the bus I was on emerged from a tunnel- it was pure magic, like smelling the ocean for the first time. I hope you get to go soon!

  9. I love your blog, it make me dream. I want to go one day to Yukon one day and I will drive there and I will bring my small trailer with me and my 2 dogs and for sure my husband!

  10. Love your blog, facebook page and all of these gorgeous photos! A return trip to Cape San Blas beach in Florida is on my bucket list! Beautiful beaches!
